The Thad Cochran Southern Horticulture Research Laboratory is located in Poplarville, Mississippi.  Poplarville has about 2500 fulltime residents that enjoy the quiet, small-town atmosphere.  The town has Gulf Coast weather and 60% of the days are sunny.  Winter temperatures average 40 degrees at night in January and February, 60 to 65 degrees during the day.  Summers are hot with daytime temperatures averaging 88 to 92 degrees in July and August.  Poplarville is the Blueberry capital of Mississippi and hosts the annual Blueberry Jubilee.  The SFRU station is located adjacent to the Pearl River Community College.
