WHNRC Nutritional Metabolomics Research Group

Our group is developing and applying quantitative metabolomic tools to investigate the effects of diet on adipose function and obesity development.

We are using targeted metabolic profiling to explore dietary impacts on inflammatory events, the structure and function of lipoprotein particles, and ultimately mechanisms of altered tissue lipid metabolism.  Current metabolic profiles include oxygenated lipid mediators, free and esterified fatty acids, endocannabinoids, and their distributions in tissues and lipoprotein particles.

At the heart of this research is a desire to fundamentally understand if fine tuning an individuals' diet can improve adipose function, reduce body weight and promote general health in the population.

These findings will aid in future modifications to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines.
