Decision support tools, as the name implies, are designed to help the user make decisions about his or her operations. The user enters information salient to their operations (e.g. management, inputs, etc.) and the decision support tool will provide “predictions” of outcomes based on changes in the user’s operations. For instance, a farmer might use a decision support tool to determine when to apply irrigation to reduce the effect on yield when irrigation water is limited.
