Downregulation of Inflammatory Markers by Trans-Resveratrol: A Pilot Study

Why are we doing this study?

Obesity can play a role in chronic inflammation. Studies suggest that chronic inflammation inside the body can increase a woman's risk of developing diseases of aging. This research study will investigate if the natural food compound, resveratrol, can cause a downregulation in the inflammation biomarkers.

Who is eligible for this study?

  • You are a woman 18 years of age or older with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater
  • You have at least one intact breast that has not received radiation therapy
  • You live near or are willing to travel (at your own expense) to the University of North Dakota and the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks, ND

What is required of me for this study?

Particpants will take either 1 or 2 capsules daily containing 500 mg of Resveratrol for 30 days or one menstrual cycle if you are premenopausal. A body fat compostion assessment, blood, urine, breast fluid, and ductal lavage samples collections will occur at baseline and the end visit. Questionnaires will be completed at baseline, midpoint, and end visit. Participants will be contacted once annually for life by phone or letter to complete an update on your health.

Will I get compensated for my time?
