Acquisitions
headline bar
To carry out the overall objective of providing genetic diversity for the improvement of citrus and date productivity and reducing genetic vulnerability in the future, the first and foremost task is collection of the widest possible known genetic diversity in each species of citrus and citrus relatives and dates. This collection will include domesticated cultivars which contain gene combinations with traits desirable for productivity, pest resistance, and fruit quality as well as species which may contain unique genes found nowhere else. Germplasm is exchanged with other countries in order to acquire new genetic lines. Incoming clonal germplasm is indexed and quarantined by the UCR Citrus Clonal Protection Program (CCPP).
