Mission:
In accordance with ARS Program plans current emphasis at the Honey Bee Breeding Genetics, and Physiology Research Unit is on (1) components related to problems caused by Varroa mites, Nosema ceranae, tracheal mites and colony collapse disorder, (2) testing and breeding for resistance to these biological hazards, 3) developing management techniques best suited to improved stocks of honey bees and 4) developing marker assisted procedures to focus and improve selection programs.
