Lysimeters
headline bar

The NAEW maintains a total of 11 large monolith lysimeters (8.1 m2 x 2.4 m deep), three of which are weighing lysimeters. The NAEW is one of the few weighing lysimeter sites in the U.S. that is located in rain-fed agriculture. The NAEW has also accumulated data from the lysimeters since the late 1930's, building the longest water balance record (evapotranspiration, percolation, runoff, rainfall) of any U.S. weighing lysimeter site. Originally the accuracy of the lysimeters was reported to be about 0.25 mm, but recent changes have improved the accuracy to about 0.025 mm.
