Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs)
headline bar

TMDLs are difficult to quantify because data are often scanty and very expensive to obtain for the many sites and chemical constituents that are involved. New methods of quantifying TMDLs are necessary to ease the regulatory burden of determining TMDLs in an objective way. Methods are needed to extract the most information out of the scanty data often available, and to incorporate risk and uncertainty. A method using flow-duration curves was developed and initially reported. Research will continue on development of the method, and on evaluation case studies.
