The pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), was first described by W. W. Saunders as Depressaria gossypiella in 1843 from specimens found damaging cotton in India in 1842. The pink bollworm and is now recorded from nearly all the cotton-growing countries of the world (CAB Institute of Entomology, 1990) and is a key pest in many of these areas. 

This bibliography attempts to compile the world literature of P. gossypiella and should be a useful aid to researchers, educators, extension personnel, agricultural producers, industry, and government administrators involved in all aspects of managing this serious pest. The bibliography was derived from a number of sources, including the personal reprint collections and databases of the authors, the unpublished manuscripts of Harned (1952) and Gordh (1988), and the published reviews of Noble (1965), Ingram (1994) and Henneberry and Naranjo (1998).  The Current Awareness Literature Service of the National Agricultural Library (NAL) also was helpful in conducting searches of various abstracting databases such as AGRICOLA (NAL), AGRIS (FAO), Biological Abstracts (BIOSIS), Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux Abstracts (CABI), Zoological Records (BIOSIS), Current Contents (Institute for Scientific Information), and Dissertation Abstracts International (University Microfilms International).

The original bibliography was published in 2002 (Naranjo et al. 2002) and addenda are produced each year since then. To simplify the distribution of electronic copies, we maintain the April 2009 addendum and the total bibliography (all citations through April 2009). This permits those with the complete database from last year to update through early 2009 and those without any of the versions to obtain the entire bibliography.

The database is available in ProCite format (Version 4.03 for Windows 95/98/2000/NT), word processor format (Word 2003), and ASCII text format. We can also provide a runtime version of the ProCite software (V. 4.03 for Windows). This runtime software will enable you to search and print the database.
