| What Is MPED and How Can You Use It? |

WHAT IS MPED?
- The MPED translates the amounts of foods eaten in USDA's What We Eat in America (WWEIA), the dietary interview component of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) into the number of equivalents for the 7 MyPyramid major groups and the corresponding subgroups.
- In all, there are 32 MyPyramid groups in the MPED.
- A new version of the MPED is developed for each 2-year WWEIA, NHANES data release.
WHAT DOES MPED INCLUDE?
- Documentation on the development and use of the MPED
- The number of MyPyramid equivalents of each of the 32 major groups and subgroups that are present in 100 grams of foods in the Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies (FNDDS) associated with the respective WWEIA, NHANES
- Dietary intakes of individuals in the WWEIA, NHANES in terms of the 32 food-group-equivalents, in SAS® format
- A set of sample SAS® code files for data analysis
- A list of USDA survey food codes and food modification codes, with description
HOW CAN YOU USE MPED?
- In research projects to assess the dietary status of U.S. population and socio-economic groups with respect to the Dietary Guidelines recommendations
- In other dietary research studies to:
- To determine the amounts of grain-, fruit-, vegetable-, milk-, meat and beans-, fat and oils-, and added sugars-equivalents present in foods.
