The myostatin mutation in sheep is helping researchers increase the size of loin chops while keeping fat to a minimum. Geneticist Tim Leeds (left, formerly with the Dubois lab) and animal scientist J. Bret Taylor use diagnostic ultrasound to estimate loin muscle area and backfat thickness in a lamb.
