It can take just 100 cells of Salmonella or E. coli to make you sick. Public waterways are routinely tested for signs that these organisms may be present, but current testing methods can’t always detect the pathogens at very low levels. Agricultural Research Service scientists in Watkinsville, Georgia, have combined several laboratory techniques into a new method that can spot the microbes at lower levels than ever before.
