If we decide to donate blood, most of us would like to control when we donate it-and to whom. So mosquitoes are an outdoor nuisance to be avoided, as are biting flies, ticks, and chiggers. We ward all of them off with deet, a strong repellant that ARS discovered 40 years ago.
