Foodborne Toxin Detection and Prevention Research Unit (FTDP)
FTDP's mission is to improve food safety and biosecurity by:
- Analyzing bacterial and fungal toxins in foods
- Inhibiting fungal growth and mycotoxin synthesis
- Controlling major insect pests
- Improving post-harvest processing to remove contaminated products
We validate these technologies and transfer knowledge to the scientific community, the food industry, and regulatory agencies responsible for the safety of the U.S. food supply.
Our staff includes scientists with professional expertise in microbiology, molecular biology, immunochemistry, natural products chemistry, agricultural engineering, physics, and entomology.
