Mission
The mission of the Diet, Microbiome and Immunity Research Unit is to evaluate dietary interventions to optimize immune health, with a particular emphasis on effects mediated by the intestinal microbiome. Research focuses on how diet can improve protective immunity, such as response to vaccination, as well as minimize diet-associated inflammation that may lead to chronic disease. The roles of dietary patterns, foods, and dietary components (such as fiber, fermented foods and phytochemicals) are examined using observational and intervention studies in adults, as well as studies in cell culture and animal models.
