PPPSR has a NICS certified Organic Poultry Research Farm where we can grow organic chickens. This puts us in a position to address various issues facing organic poultry farmers.
Once outside the building the free-range chickens have outdoor feeders, waterers, forages and bushes to explore. Electric fencing keeps predators at bay.
Dr. Moore has designed an ammonia scrubber which attaches to poultry house exhaust fan. As air leaves poultry house the scrubber reduces the ammonia concentration that emits into the outside air.
Wally is adding feed to a pen of Japanese quail. Plus he is checking the health of the group. Quail are escape artist and hard to catch!
Dr. Ashworth’s team testing vegetative buffer strips in a rainfall simulation study for their ability to reduce nutrient runoff following poultry litter soil applications.
Dr. Jesudhasan and his team utilize an electron beam (eBeam) to inactivate bacterial pathogens for vaccine preparation.
Dr. Caputi’s team uses confocal microscopy to assess how environmental stress affects the nervous system in the gut of poultry.
