We are fortunate to live in a country and work in an organization that values diversity and inclusion. I can honestly say that coming from a different environment and having lived on three continents. I have traveled to many places and observed their cultures. And, I am proud that here, we hold “equal opportunity” as an ideal that we strive for, despite our implicit or declared biases. We try to do the right thing.
One of my previous bosses told me that he missed many opportunities simply because “they don’t know me.” That may have happened to each of us at one time or another and we know how that feels. It hurts because we were excluded for one reason or another, or simply we were not even given a chance. The ideals that we embrace go beyond hiring practices. We treat everyone with dignity and respect and take a long-term view of caring for future generations who will exceed our own expectations.
