My responsibilities are to safeguard the USDA NPGS seed collection by ensuring a backup collection is secured at our laboratory in Fort Collins and the Global Seed Vault in Svalbard, Norway. I work with over 80 organizations, including botanic gardens, Universities, national genebanks in other countries, international genebanks, and Indigenous U.S. organizations to secure their backup seed and microbe collections.  My team handles incoming samples; processing, packaging, storing and distributing. We are also responsible for non-research data management. My research focuses on conserving crop wild relative species that occur in the United States. These wild cousins of our crops are important sources of useful traits that can make crops more resilient to emerging pests and changing environments, yet they remain vulnerable to loss.
