Javier M Gonzalez has been with the USDA-ARS since 2002, first as a Research Chemist from 2002 to 2012 at the former Appalachian Farming Systems Research Center, Beaver, WV, and since 2012 as a Research Soil Scientist at the National Soil Erosion Research Laboratory, West Lafayette, IN and an adjunct assistant professor of Agronomy at Purdue University. His overall research goal is to develop fundamental knowledge of soil-plant-water interactions affecting biogeochemical processes associated fate and transport of nutrients and pollutants, soil organic matter transformations, and biological and physical soil properties, and ultimately, developing soil conservation practices that enhance soil health and water quality. Specific objectives include (1) assessing the impact of conservation practices on soil and water, (2) quantifying the use of industrial byproducts to improve soil and water quality, and (3) quantifying the effects of new and innovative cropping, tillage management practices on soil organic matter dynamics and nutrient cycling. He received his B.S. in Agronomy (Soil Science) from the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo (Mexico) and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Soil Science (Soil Chemistry) from Iowa State University.
