Research Project: Development of Testing Technologies for Chemical Residues and Data Processing and Mining Method for Risk Assessment

Location: Microbial and Chemical Food Safety

Project Number: 8072-42000-083-005-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2015
End Date: Jun 30, 2020

Objective:
1) Develop advanced sample preparation, testing and monitoring methods for detection of hazardous chemical residues, including pesticides, veterinary drugs, heavy metals, and microbial toxins in food and other agricultural products using modern instrumentation methods to enhance the safety of the international food supply. 2) Develop advanced data analysis and mining methods and tools for conducting risk assessment of foods and other agricultural products.

Approach:
Research will be conducted by scientists at both ERRC and IQSTAP to develop 1) more effective and efficient sample preparation methods and devices; 2) analytical methods for detecting multi-class, multi-residues of harmful chemicals in food and other agricultural products; 3) computer simulation framework, statistical methods, and data mining tools to support international food safety risk assessment and prediction; 4) an international food safety database to support food safety decision making.
