Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED PEANUT WITH IMPROVED AGRONOMIC TRAITS

Location: Peanut Research

Project Number: 6044-21000-003-01
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jul 01, 2010
End Date: Sep 30, 2012

Objective:
1. Establish peanut transformation and regeneration system for U.S. elite peanut varieties. 2. Produce transgenic peanut with the potential for enhanced agronomic traits, such as disease and drought resistance.

Approach:
Several elite U.S. peanut varieties will be utilized to establish transformation and regeneration procedure. This involves the utilization of existing published method to determine if it can be applied specifically to these elite peanut varieties and to establish new procedures as necessary. Once a method for peanut transformation and regeneration procedure is established, candidate genes (i.e. disease resistance) will be transformed into peanut to generate genetically modified plants with the potential of enhanced agronomic traits.
