Research Project: Physiological and Breeding Approaches to Develop Stress Tolerant Soybean Varieties for Arkansas

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-068-34
Project Type: General Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 01, 2014
End Date: Nov 30, 2014

Objective:
To develop high yielding drought and flood tolerant cultivars adapted to Arkansas and other drought-prone U.S. environments.

Approach:
A broad range of soybean germplasm will be screened for drought tolerance in the field and greenhouse. Genetics of tolerance will be ascertained through QTL mapping and also adapted drought tolerant breeding lines will be developed through empirical selection for seed yield under stress.
