Research Project: Geospatial information research for improved watershed management practice assessments in the USA and China

Location: Watershed Physical Processes Research Unit

Project Number: 6408-13000-023-30
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 01, 2013
End Date: Dec 31, 2017

Objective:
Develop geospatial databases and technology to assess the effectiveness of land management practices at multiple scales for application in the USA and China.

Approach:
a) Develop Geographic information system (GIS) databases to document land cover/land use and other key aspects of China and USA agricultural watersheds needed to determine water, sediment and chemical sources through simulations with watershed models. b) Investigate remote sensing methods for characterization of climate, watershed properties, and management practices for assessment with the AnnAGNPS watershed model in reducing pollutant loads. c) Develop and enhance the AGNPS model for applications and simulations for conditions in China and U.S. watersheds.
