1) To determine if swine manure application rate to soil affects the leaching and runoff potential of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes found in swine lagoon effluent.
2)To determine if manure application timing affects the leaching and runoff potential of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes found in swine lagoon effluent.
The fate and transport of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes from land-applied swine manures will be evaluated using laboratory columns to determine leaching potential and runoff boxes to determine runoff potential. Different manure application rates and timing of manure application prior to rainfall events will be assessed. Several soil textures and soil water contents will be evaluated.
