We will use RAD SNPs to genotype the 2005 brood-year parents and phenotyped offspring from eight families and their siblings that were used as breeders in 2007, which will allow us to generate genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) for the 2007 breeders. We will then compare the GEBV ranking of the breeders within each family to the ranking based on the actual performance from progeny testing that was done in 2007 and will calculate correlations for each family (i.e. accuracy of GEBV). High correlations will indicate that the intra-family genomic selection can improve the efficiency of selection for BCWD resistance in rainbow trout, and through simulations we will be able to calculate predicted genetic gain from using predicted animal’s GEBV to select breeders rather than randomly selecting breeders from the top performing families.
