Objective:
1) To describe the substrate-borne signals associated with intraspecific communication and mating behavior of Homalodisca vitripennis; and 2) determine which signals are effective to attract, repel, and/or disrupt mating of H. vitripennis.

Approach:
Individuals will be placed on host plants and their behavior monitored via a laser vibrometer and video surveillance. A second series of studies will determine which H. vitripennis vibrational signals can be exploited in a management program for this pest via playback experiments.
