Research Project: NRCS - Wepp Model Integration

Location: National Soil Erosion Research Lab

Project Number: 3602-12130-001-19
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2013
End Date: Sep 30, 2015

Objective:
Develop the science portion of the Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model and provide the framework for NRCS to integrate WEPP into the NRCS business environment that will address sheet and rill erosion, concentrated flow erosion and small watershed erosion prediction as a process-based model.

Approach:
Develop WEPP model for NRCS that include the following capabilities to: 1) assess erosion for hillslope and small watershed applications; 2) run online with GIS capabilities to calculate slope and length of slope, and concentrated flow paths; 3) obtain vegetation, operations, and residue data from the NRCS Land Management Operations Database (LMOD); 4) use existing land management systems in LMOD as inputs into WEPP; 5) use the NRCS soil data mart as source of soil data; 6) evaluate risks and probability of certain soil erosion events; 7) be compatible to run within the NRCS Objective Modeling System environment.
