A field trial will be conducted to determine the efficiency of totally impermeable film (TIF) in reducing fumigant emissions, the total fumigant mass loss from soil, and the changes over time of the fumigant concentration and distribution in soil. The trial is designed to determine emissions using TIF with a bedded drip application of 1,3-dichloropropene and chloropicrin. It is also designed to estimate the relative contribution to flux from the tarped bed surfaces and untarped furrow surfaces. The flux is to be determined continuously using dynamic flux chambers. In addition, fumigant concentration change and distribution in soil profiles down to 50 cm depth in beds under the TIF and 20 cm in furrows, and residual fumigants in soil at the end of the study will also be determined. The data will be provided to California Department of Pesticide Regulation for HYDRUS 2D/3D validation, i.e., for modeling/prediction of emissions.
