Research Project: Evaluation of Soybean Green Stem Disorder over Multiple Locations

Location: Soybean/maize Germplasm, Pathology, and Genetics Research

Project Number: 3611-22000-021-24
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Jan 01, 2014
End Date: Dec 31, 2014

Objective:
1) Evaluate soybean genotypes over multiple locations for their sensitivity to green stem disorder; 2) Assess treatments that enhance or reduce green stem disorder; and, 3) Develop populations to determine the inheritance of green stem disorder.

Approach:
Objective 1: Locations in IL, IO, LA, and MS will be used to evaluate soybean genotypes for their sensitivty to green stem disorder. Tests will be conducted on selected soybean genotypes in experiment plots with the percent green stem disorder and yield recorded; Objective 2: Locations in AL, IL, IO, LA, and MS will be used to evaluate the effect of treatments (pesticides) on sensitivty to green stem disorder of selected genotypes. Standard protocol for setting up the field experiment plots will be used with the percent green stem disorder and yield recorded; and, Objective 3: Green stem disorder mapping populations will be developed after reciprocally crossing two soybean genotypes that differ in their sensitivity to green stem disorder with the goal of understanding the inheritance of sensitivity to green stem disorder.
