Objective:
Evaluate total tract energy and lipid digestibility in commercially available distillers corn oils differing in fatty acid composition in 15 kg pigs.

Approach:
Design: One group of 54 weanling pigs (5 kg BW) will be obtained from the ISU Swine Nutrition Farm to conduct the study (54 crates/6 treatments = 9 replications). For the first 7 days (days 0-7), all pigs will be pen fed a common diet to optimize feed intake. For the next 7 days (days 8-14) pigs will be group fed their respective diet (either 100% basal or 90% basal + 10% test lipid) to adapt to dietary treatments. For the next 7 days (days 15-21) pigs will be moved to individual metabolism crates for continued diet adaptation as well as adaptation to the meal feeding (twice daily) regimen and to the metabolism crates. After this feeding frequency and metabolism crate adaptation period, pigs will remain on their respective diets for a 4-day total fecal and urine collection period (days 22-25) to determine total tract energy and lipid digestibility. In addition, 2 serum samples from each pig will be collected after overnight fasting and 2 to 3 hours after feeding, respectively, at the end of feeding experiment. Serum and urine samples will be analyzed by LC-MS-based metabolomics to determine the nutritional status, including lipid profile, free amino acids, and organic acids. Criteria: Nutrient digestibility and metabolomics profile of lipids, free amino acids, and organic acids. Stats: The experiment will be designed as a completely randomized design with the individual pig being the experimental unit. Nutrient digestibility of the basal diet will be used to calculate nutrient digestibility of the test lipids (difference methodology).
