Research Project: Development of a Seedling Inoculation Technique to Evaluate Soybean for Resistance to Phomopsis Seed Decay (Mspb-34-2014)

Location: Crop Genetics Research Unit

Project Number: 6402-21220-012-15
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Apr 01, 2014
End Date: Mar 31, 2015

Objective:
Develop a seedling inoculation technique to evaluate soybean for resistance to Phomopsis seed decay.

Approach:
A pilot study will be conducted to test a susceptible cultivar, and optimize conditions for the tests, such as the growth chamber’s temperature and humidity, pathogen ages, and plant growth stages; and will perform seedling inoculation on selected soybean varieties and plant introductions from our previous field trails at Stoneville and measure the stem lesion length after inoculation.
