Research Project: China-USA Research Platform in Large Scale Efficient Genotyping Technology of Major Crop Germplasm

Location: Genetics and Sustainable Agriculture Research

Project Number: 6064-21000-016-007-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2015
End Date: Dec 31, 2019

Objective:
To assist in the development of a plan for genotyping cotton and other crop seed stored in the germplasm collection at the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, China. To compare molecular diversity between accession at the Chinese Institute with U.S. cotton lines. To exchange diverse cotton germplasm. To receive and train visiting scientists from the Chinese Institute on methodologies used by the Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research Unit for molecular characterization of cotton germplasm.

Approach:
Visiting scientists from the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, China, will spend time as visiting scientists in the Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research Unit for training in molecular characterization procedures and associated database management technologies. One support scientist from ARS will visit the Institute of China one or more times to assist in training of their personnel. Molecular genotyping data will be compared on cotton lines in the Institute in China and lines maintained by the Genetics and Precision Agriculture Research Unit and diverse lines will be exchanged between the two entities.
