Eradication of Pathogens from Aberdeen Potato Breeding Clones to Allow Their Evaluation in the National Fry and Chip Processing Trials
Small Grains and Potato Germplasm Research
Project Number: 2050-21000-032-10
Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Oct 15, 2012
End Date: Sep 30, 2014
Five breeding clones from the USDA-ARS potato breeding program have been identified as having sufficient merit for the production of tissue culture nuclear plantlets free of pathogens. Tissue culture plantlets will then be used for the production of certified seed to allow their evaluations in the National Fry and Chip Processing Trials as part of the SCRI Acylamide Reduction Grant.
Aberdeen potato breeding clones A00206-1C, A02138-2, A02424-83LB, A02507-2LB, and A03921-2 will have viral and bacterial pathogens removed using plant tissue culture techniques, allowing the production of certified seed for the clones’ evaluation in the National Fry and Chip Processing Trials—components of the SCRI Acrylamide Reduction Grant.
