Research Project: Research and Development of Best Management Practices for Soil and Water Conservation

Location: National Soil Erosion Research Lab

Project Number: 3602-12130-001-14
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 01, 2013
End Date: Dec 20, 2016

Objective:
1) To assess effects of agricultural practices on soil and water quality; 2) to develop control practices to minimize soil erosion and pollution from agricultural runoff and drainage; and 3) to improve current soil erosion and water quality models.

Approach:
1) Collect soil and water quality samples at field and watershed scales to assess conservation effects; 2) synthesize existing information on management strategy and control practice for sediment and chemical runoff and conduct research to provide the necessary data support for new and innovative practices; and 3) evaluate deficiencies in current soil erosion and water quality models and make improvements based on current information.
