Research Project: Measuring Phosphorus in Soil Solution and Tile Drainage

Location: Soil Drainage Research

Project Number: 5080-13000-011-31
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Jul 31, 2013
End Date: Apr 01, 2015

Objective:
Quantify the amount of phosphorus in soil solution and from the end-of-tile under different crop production managements

Approach:
We will use a field based approach to quantify soil solution and end-of-tile phosphorus concentrations under different crop production management practices. Suction lysimeters will be installed over tile and between tile to measure soil solution phosphorus. A combination of grab samples and automated sampler data will be used to quantify the end-of-tile phosphorus. Lysimeters will be placed in different fields that represent a range of management extending from long-term no-till to rotational till systems. We anticipate that samples will be collected over a two year or single crop rotation period.
