Research Project: Conservation Effects Assessment Project (Ceap) - Cropland 2013

Location: Grassland, Soil and Water Research Laboratory

Project Number: 6206-13610-007-36
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jun 01, 2013
End Date: Dec 31, 2014

Objective:
ARS will provide modeling, documentation, and technical support for selected HUC 12 watersheds (IA and Maumee), support agency landscape initiatives, provide continued development of the SWAT model for water quality estimates, begin development of modeling conservation effects on grazing lands, wetlands and wildlife, and develop daily weather input files for APEX and SWAT to reflect several climate change models and predictions. This work will continue support of the Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP), a multi-agency effort led by NRCS to provide policy and decision makers with an assessment of the environmental benefits of implementing conservation practices.

Approach:
Complete modeling and documentation for selected HUC 12 watersheds (IA and Maumee). Support NRCS Landscape Initiatives via selected modeling of conservation practice effects. Continue development of SWAT model for improved water quality estimates. Begin development of how to model the effects of practices on grazing lands, wetlands and wildlife to more fully address multiple resource concerns of NRCS. Develop daily weather input files for APEX and SWAT that reflect several climate change models and predictions for alternative treatment need analysis.
