1) Determine which solution properties and processing parameters are critical for fiber formation of agriculturally derived natural polymers, including fish gelatin, chitosan, methyl cellulose, zein and wheat gluten.
2) Incorporate active antimicrobial compounds into nanofibers and examine their controlled release properties.
3) Determine toxicity of inhaled nanofibers by evaluating potential pulmonary toxicity effects in mice.
Apply novel solution blow spinning technique to efficiently produce natural nanofibers which can be used for controlled release applications. Determine the properties that best enable production of these nanofibers and test their toxicity.
