Research Project: Physical Activity and its Impact on Glucose Metabolism and Fuel Management

Location: Food Components and Health Laboratory

Project Number: 8040-51530-011-004-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2014
End Date: May 31, 2019

Objective:
The objective of this project is to examine the relationship between physical activity, fuel management, and glucose regulation using ambulatory monitoring methodologies and mathematical modeling of these physiological processes.

Approach:
Studies using human volunteers will be conducted in which physical activity, diet, and perhaps other factors, will be altered to affect a change in glucose metabolism or metabolic fuel use. From this data, modeling techniques will be used to develop mathematical models that predict glucose, water, and metabolic fuel requirements of physically active humans.
