Research Project: Discovery and Development of Wheat Germplasm with Increased Resistance to Biotic Stresses

Location: Wheat Health, Genetics, and Quality Research

Project Number: 2090-21000-033-002-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2014
End Date: May 31, 2019

Objective:
To strengthen and enhance ongoing research in the area of biotic stress resistance in wheat, with emphasis on stripe rust resistance and also Fusarium head blight resistance.

Approach:
Specific areas that are being investigated include the identification of new resistance alleles for stripe rust; identification of QTL for fusarium head blight resistance. Development of molecular markers for resistance gene introgression. Development and identification of Genotype by Sequence (GBS) tags and selection models for genomic selection for abiotic and biotic stress resistances in wheat.
