Research Project: Microbial Ecology of Antimicrobial Resistance

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00092-001-000-D
Project Type: In-House Appropriated

Start Date: Apr 15, 2019
End Date: Apr 14, 2024

Objective:
Investigate the microbiome of the gastrointestinal system in response to external stressors including management, feeding practices, environment, transport, and the administration of antimicrobials. Investigate the microbiome and antibiotic resistance patterns of environmental bacteria associated with manure, water, and soil to identify the baseline and further define the impact of antibiotic use in production animals on the microbial environment.

Approach:
Headquarters-held project established to facilitate the process for completing stated objectives.
