Research Project: Monitoring Potato Psyllid Populations and Liberibacter in the Pacific Northwest

Location: Temperate Tree Fruit and Vegetable Research

Project Number: 2092-22000-021-008-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2014
End Date: Jun 30, 2019

Objective:
Monitor potato psyllid populations and Liberibacter incidence in the Pacific Northwest.

Approach:
Use high resolution melting technique to haplotype potato psyllids collected in the Pacific Northwest potato crops. Determine the level of Liberibacter infection in collected psyllids and monitor the relationship of psyllid haplotype and Liberibacter-infection. Develop novel psyllid haplotyping tools by identifying a nuclear DNA marker(s) to further distinguish the psyllid populations within the Pacific Northwest. Information from this study will help develop effective management strategies for zebra chip.
