Project Number: 3070-11130-005-07
Start Date: May 01, 2014
End Date: Sep 01, 2015
In this first year, we will develop our plan for moving forward, engaging in dialog with Leads from other Climate Hubs, our proposing Hub partners (including SC-CSC and NOAA/RISA SCIPP), and conforming with the Charter and Terms of Reference for the Climate Hubs as they are developed. We will facilitate the development of curriculum on science-based risk management of agricultural lands, forests, and associated water resources under variable and changing weather and climate in the Southern Plains. We will utilize a number of approaches to begin engaging stakeholders and gaining their input for the development of climate-smart management approaches, including personal discussions, hosting webinars and/or workshops, attending stakeholder meetings and webinars, and utilizing ongoing research and outreach efforts within the USDA and our federal, state, private, and university partners. We are working with the network of national and regional Climate Hub leadership to develop a unified Hub web presence; our regional Hub web site will be our primary delivery mechanism for agriculturally-related climate change educational material, building on efforts of NIFA, NRCS, FS, and our other federal partners. And we will participate in regional risk and vulnerability assessments, building from on-going efforts underway in ARS, NRCS, and FS regional programs as well as in partner and collaborative entities, summarizing the greatest climate related risks and vulnerabilities within the Southern Plains region.
