Research Project: Molecular Diagnosis and Biological Control of Rift Valley Fever in Egypt

Location: Mosquito and Fly Research

Project Number: 6036-32000-050-017-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2014
End Date: Jul 31, 2019

Objective:
To develop new tools to detect Rift Valley fever virus and control mosquito vectors with biological control techniques.

Approach:
1. Conduct assessment of the seasonal variation of the disease existence and population of vector mosquitoes. 2. Development and application of different diagnostic tools to detect the accuracy, specificity and reproducibility of the recent techniques compared with the traditional one. 3. Sequence and compare isolates with gene bank. 4. Evaluate biological control using bacterial pathogens or natural products. 5. Post-treatment evaluation of bacteria and natural products.
