Interpretive Summary: Pronghorn virus is a member of the pestivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family of viruses, along with bovine viral diarrhea virus, border disease virus and classical swine fever virus. Pronghorn virus is the only example of this pestivirus to have been isolated to date. Because of this, little is known concerning its host range or pathogenic potential. Here, we have determined the complete genomic sequence of the virus. It encodes the same proteins as other members of the genus but shows considerable sequence divergence. This data provides further evidence that it should be categorized as a new genotype within the pestivirus genus.

Technical Abstract: The complete genome sequence of Pronghorn virus, a member of the Pestivirus genus of the Flaviviridae, was determined. The virus, originally isolated from a pronghorn antelope, had a genome of 12,287 nucleotides with a single open reading frame of 11,694 bases encoding 3898 amino acids.
