Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Polymers of L-aspartic acid have shown promise as bio-based replacements for polyacrylics. We have synthesized Polysuccinimide and copoly(succinimide-aspartate) utilizing supercritical carbon dioxide. Additionally, we have also been able to synthesize copoly(succinimide-aspartate) in supercritical carbon dioxide. These syntheses offer alternative preparations of the polymers of L-aspartic acid, as dispersions in organic solvents, or to solid state synthesis. Utilization of our methods may allow the simple synthesis of derivatives which may lead to bio-based polyacrylic replacements.
