Technical Abstract: Three insect susceptible cultivars (‘Beauregard’ [B63], 'Beauregard' [B94-14], and 'SC 1149-19'), two insect-resistant cultivars ('Charleston Scarlet' and ‘Ruddy’), and 7 regional genotypes from the 2010 National Sweetpotato Collaborator Trials were evaluated for insect resistance in replicated field trials at Charleston, SC. Three entries had significantly less overall insect damage (ie., higher percentage of undamaged roots) and a lower WDS index (Wireworm, Diabrotica, Systena) than did the three susceptible checks (B-63, B94-14, and SC1149-19). Overall, the highest levels of resistance were for the resistant check cultivars ‘Ruddy’ and ‘Charleston Scarlet’, which had 96% and 78% uninjured roots, respectively. Seven genotypes had significantly less damage by flea beetles than did ‘SC1149-19’. White grub damage was very light and data were not significant for 2010. All genotypes had significantly less damage by sweetpotato weevils than did ‘SC1149-19’.
