This study is a preliminary taxonomic survey with information on the distribution and host plants of the Pyraloidea and its relatives reared by Jose A. Pastrana in Argentina. This is an essential contribution to future studies in all taxonomic level, and will help other scientists and action agencies locate and use information specifically dealing with the moths of Argentina. Technical Abstract: The Pyraloidea is estimated to be the second largest superfamily in the Lepidoptera, with about 15,000 species worldwide and about as many undescribed. The purpose of this chapter is to survey species reared by Jose A. Pastrana, review the taxonomic literature, and to summarize the higher-level classification pertaining to the Pyraloidea and its relatives, the Hyblaeoidea and Thyridoidea, of Argentina. |
