Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A century of maize genetics research and a large commercial resource base uniquely position maize to lead the genomics revolution of crop improvement. To provide for calculated manipulation by breeding and biotechnology, we must anticipate and develop the necessary physical resources, marker tools, and information systems for maize genomics. The Missouri Maize Project (www.cafnr.missouri.edu/mmp/index.htm) will integrate physical and genetic mapping and marker development for the maize genome; high-resolution EST mapping; biological and genetic characterization of mutants, variations, traits, and germplasms; and database enhancements in access and representation.
