Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A combined physical and genetic map of the Brachyspira (Serpulina) pilosicoli genome was constructed. The genome of this bacterium consists of a single circular chromosome about 2.65 Mb in size. Both the size and genetic organization of B. pilosicoli is different from that of B. hyodysenteriae. Comparison of the genetic maps of these two related bacteria suggests that the chromosomes have undergone rearrangements during their evolution. Genes unique to each of these two genomes were identified.
