Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Bulked segregant analysis with the use of near-isogenic lines identified unique segments of DNA among four near-isogenic morphological cotton leaf types (super-okra, sub-okra, okra, and normal). The four genetically distinct leaf type isolines Gossypium hirsutum were assayed with approximately 530 molecular markers, SSRs and RAPDs. A single 10-base random oligonucleotide primer revealed polymorphic fragments among them. Each group of bulks had at least one different locus between leaf morphology types, and between groups. Ten polymorphic fragments, which ranged from 0.5 to 2.0 Kb, will be isolated, cloned and sequenced. The polymorphic fragments appear to be involved in cotton leaf morphology.
